Baked Moong Dal gujiya

Baked Moong Dal Gujiya

Holi is festival of color that is celebrated in all over the india. In this festival , gujiya is only dish that is  made in every house. Gujiya is classic Indian sweet that is made in holi festival. This is crispy outer with the goodness of sugar, coconut and aromatic spice .you can make stuffing of your choice in this gujiya as mava stuffing, nuts stuffing, coconut stuffing.
                               Today i have prepared the baked gujiya with moong dal stuffing. 


For dough:
2 cup maida/ all purpose flour
¼ cup semolina/ suji
5 tbsp ghee
¼ cup milk
¼ water

For stuffing:
1 cup moong dal
3 tbsp ghee
1 ¼ cup sugar
½ mava
½ cup desiccated coconut
½ cup  chopped nuts (cashew, almond and raisin)
1 tsp cardamom powder
½ tsp nutmeg powder

For brush the gujiya:
1 tbsp milk
¼ tsp saffron
2 tsp ghee


For dough:
1.In a mixing bowl, add  maida, suji and ghee and mix well.
2.Add milk and water and knead a nice dough.
3.Rest the dough for 5-10 mins.

For stuffing:
1.Soak the dal for 4-5 hour .
2.Heat a pan and add 2-3 glass of water and boil them.
3.When water become hot ,add dal and boil for 5-6 and strain the dal with metal strainer  .
4 .Heat the ghee in a pan.
5.Add chopped nuts and mix well.
6.Add boiled dal and mix for 4-5 mins.
7.Add mava and stir for 3-4 mins.
8.Add sugar and and cook for 6-7 mins.
9.Add cardamom and coconut and mix well
10. Stir for another 3-4 mins and turn off the flame .
11. Transfer this mixture in the bowl and keep aside.

For making gunjiya:

1.Make lemon size balls of the dough. And add 2 tsp maida and 2 tsp wate in bowl and mix well and make a paste.
2.Take a ball and roll it with rolling pin.
3.Make a 4 inch circle  as show in the photo.
4.i used the gujiya mould.
5.Place this rolled circle on the mould.
6.Lightly brush the maida paste on the edges of circle.
7.Place 1 tbsp stuffing on the center of the circle .
8.Carefully press the mould and remove the extra dough and make the rest of gujiya in same manner
9.Place all the gujiya on the baking tray and brush  gujiya with oil.
10 Preheat the oven at 180C .
11. Bake for 10 mins.
12. In a bowl, milk and saffron and mix well.
13. After 10 mins brush the gujiya with saffron milk and bake it again for 12 mins.
Enjoy this gujiya.

                                                 place rolled circle on mould.

                                                     Add stuffing.

                                                         lock the mould.

                                                 press it well .

                                                   gujiya is ready.


                                                 place on baking tray.

                                             brush the oil and bake it.

                                                   mix milk and saffron

                               after 10 mins brush the gujiya with saffron milk.
